Communicating Student Learning (Report Cards)

Communicating student learning is an ongoing process involving students, teachers and families. Throughout the year, teachers share information about each student’s progress, strengths and areas for continued growth.

Communication may include:

  • Written Learning Updates, previously called report cards

  • Student, parent and teacher conferences

  • Informal conversations and teacher communication

  • Samples of student learning

  • Student reflection, goal-setting and self-assessment

Elementary students receive three written Learning Updates during the school year. These updates include descriptive feedback and use the Provincial Proficiency Scale to communicate student learning in relation to the BC curriculum.

Students also reflect on the Core Competencies of Communication, Thinking, and Personal and Social Responsibility. This process helps students recognize their strengths, identify areas for growth and take greater ownership of their learning.

Written Learning Updates are accessed through the MyEducation BC Parent Portal. Families will be notified when reports are available.

Families are encouraged to contact their child’s classroom teacher whenever they have questions about their child’s learning or progress.
